Feeding ourselves!

Getting more folks farming!

How could this be done on Denman?

One solution to the need for food security, the high cost of land, an ageing population and Denman's density cap (housing limit) is to allow more than one farmer residence on ALR land to accommodate affordable housing candidates who would be committed to farming the land.

The Rural Affordable Housing Project of the Denman Community Land Trust Association (DCLTA) is seeking input on this idea.  This project recognizes the need to preserve land in the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR) for

farming and to protect the needs of the rural environment.

So what are the opportunities,

                         stumbling blocks,

                         necessary steps?

Interested?  Have ideas?

Have agricultural land that might support an additional family?

Please come & share ideas at the

Rural Affordable Housing Workshop

Denman Community School

7:30pm   Thursday, March 7th, 2013

Affordable Housing on Denman Island
DCLTA’s Keystone Project
Public Information Meeting

DCLTA’s Keystone Project requires a re-zoning, as will any donation which includes partitioning land or taps into the Official Community Plan density bank.

An "Affordable Housing" zone will be created to further ensure affordability for the long term.

To move forward on rezoning, DCLTA needs the support of the community.

On Tuesday
July 19th, 2011

Desserts For Affordable Housing

Thanks to the generosity of up to 45 bakers on the island, the Denman Community Land Trust Association is pleased to invite you to partake of an array of sumptuous and wholesome desserts.

The occasion is the
Denman Conservancy Association’s Home and Garden Tour
where you and your visitors will find us in the
Back Hall of the Denman Community Hall
from 9:30 ~ 3:00 on Sat and Sun
May 7 ~ 8, 2011

This fund raiser towards DCLTA’s goal of realizing Affordable Housing for Denman Islanders is in conjunction to the delicious lunch offered by Grandmothers for Grandmothers (funding the Stephen Lewis Foundation) — two great causes to serve the gourmet within every House and Garden participant and for islanders who are simply seeking a special treat.

Once again DCLTA would like to express our appreciation to all the islanders who are donating desserts.
